Unfortunately, not all horse behaviour problems can be safely and permanently resolved. In a small percentage of these cases the behaviour problem may pose a serious threat to human or horse safety, or the problem may result in the horse experiencing chronic stress, and a decreased quality of life. In such cases, behavioural euthanasia may be warranted. I recently wrote an article for West Coast Veterinarian Magazine on what equine veterinarians need to know about counselling clients on behavioural euthanasia. The editors have kindly allowed me to share the article as a PDF file, and you can find it here.
