Horse behaviour consultations for Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States & worldwide

Whether you know your horse experienced a traumatizing event, or if you see them showing some of the recognized symptoms of trauma in horses, I can help.

Trauma in horses can occur after a horse experiences an overwhelmingly scary or painful event. This experience causes changes to the brain, resulting in lasting behavioural, psychological, and physiological impacts that affect the horse long after the event has ended.

Signs of trauma in horses can include hypervigilance, extreme fear or reactivity to specific things or situations, unpredictable behaviour, aggression, depression, difficulty learning, changes to sleep patterns, appetite or social relationships, or even 'shut-down' behaviour.

It's hard to know your horse may have experienced such an event. You may feel sad, overwhelmed, or even angry, and you know that your horse is struggling too. You sense you both need support, but you're concerned, and rightly so, that generic, online advice might make things worse, or further retraumatize your horse.

The good news is, it doesn't need to be this way - for either of you.

Just like people, traumatized horses need the right care and support to recover from trauma. Through my online services, I can help you understand your horse's trauma and how to address it, using kind, patient, and proven techniques that also enhance your relationship and strengthen your bond.

 Option A:
Video Analysis of Behaviour - $55.00 CAD
Professional insight into possible signs of trauma in your horse, through a detailed video review.

A big part of how horses communicate their emotional states is through their behaviour. This service will assess your horse for signs of trauma, through review of a short intake form and video analysis of your horse's behaviour.

The benefit of video analysis is that I can slow things down to closely observe your horse’s behaviour and the factors influencing it. For owners who feel they don't need a 1:1 consultation, this insight provides clarity and is enough to help them decide what to do next.

Before

I have you complete a short intake form and submit a video (up to 5 minutes in length), so that I can understand the background and context and provide a careful, informed assessment.

During

I’ll review your video frame by frame, recording my observations directly on the footage, so that I can show you the behaviours - from subtle to obvious - needed for a thorough, informed analysis.

After

Within 48 hours, you’ll receive the annotated video with my commentary, so that you can see exactly what I observed and understand the factors influencing your horse’s behaviour.

This option is the perfect step to take if you're looking to:

  • Understand if your horse is displaying signs of trauma, so that you can interpret their behaviour with more confidence

  • See subtle but important details through expert, frame-by-frame analysis, so that nothing meaningful is missed

Why choose me to help

lauren and viveza portrait (3) (1).jpg

When your horse shows signs of trauma, the stakes feel high. You worry about their well-being, and you can sense they are struggling to cope.

Early in my career, I didn’t fully understand trauma in horses. I focused mainly on managing visible behaviours, and didn't appreciate that the horse may have been behaving the way they were because of past trauma.

Over time, I learned that trauma doesn't just alter how a horse behaves; it negatively affects them in their daily life. Using only surface-level or quick-fix approaches often missed the root cause and didn’t produce lasting change.

Now, with years of experience as a clinical animal behaviourist and as an accredited, trauma-informed horse trainer, I approach traumatized horses differently. By combining evidence-based, low-stress approaches with guidance for owners, I help horses feel safe, rebuild trust, and make meaningful, lasting progress towards recovery.

My horse had 12 owners in 13 years...and could shift from calm to explosive in an instant, leaving me unsure how to reach him.

Working with Lauren has been transformative, not because he became a different horse, but because I learned to truly understand him. With her guidance, our communication is safer, clearer, and so much more connected. She's inspired me to keep learning about equine behaviour, and I'm deeply grateful for the trust and confidence she's helped us build.
