Early in my career, I was taught that aggression in horses was about dominance, and typical training advice was to 'be the boss'.
Over time, I learned that this perspective didn’t capture the full picture. Aggression often has multiple causes, and addressing it effectively means understanding what a horse is experiencing and why. Using dominance-based methods, I missed underlying causes and struggled to see lasting results.
With more experience and specialized training in clinical animal behaviour, I now approach aggression in horses differently.
