About the Event
Cooperative care is a way to train animals to voluntarily participate in procedures, even those that may be mildly unpleasant. All animals, including horses, can be taught to voluntarily participate in all sorts of procedures, such as having blood drawn or taking dewormer. When we use cooperative care training procedures, not only do we achieve our goals for training, but we do so in a way that gives our horses a sense of choice and control during the process. This approach helps build the bond between human and horse.
This month's Barn Club will introduce you to the basics of cooperative care, in a way that you will find easy to understand. Next month, a more detailed, full-day workshop will dive deeper into cooperative care, and will also include practical, how-to information to teach your horse a cooperative care behaviour.
Barn Club is an educational monthly meet-up, where Lauren Fraser presents different topics on horse behaviour and training. Lauren Fraser is an experienced horsewoman and trainer, who is also a clinical animal behaviourist. She specializes in working with behaviour problems in horses, dogs, and cats, using effective, animal-friendly training methods. Each Barn Club event is only $10 per adult, one child aged 12-18 is free with a paying adult. Refreshments are available, please bring your own mug. Dress for the weather as we will be in the covered arena. NO DOGS OR SMOKING ON SITE. Thank you.
